Rockbrook Village Art Fair

Rockbrook Village Art Fair is a fine artshow filled with the quality work of around 150 artists. It is held in a upscale shopping center and draws a heck of a good crowd.

You can see it was cloudy and cold but the rains held off (with the exception of a few sprinkles) until after the close of each day.

Perks

  • Donuts and coffee in the morning.
  • Drive in loading and unloading.
  • A serious buying crowd.
  • Can get someone to booth sit if you need to.
  • Easy going atmosphere.
  • For the quality of event, it has a very reasonable booth fee.

Downside

  • Outdoors in Omaha
  • On pavement
  • Not any real support staff like the summer event has.
  • No awards. (Note: this isn’t really a downside, just thought I should mention it. Most artshows increase booth fee to pay for awards. I’d much rather spend less on the booth.)

This photo was taken Sunday afternoon. The guy in the red jacket and baseball cap is a fellow critter artist and friend, Rory Mattson, who seen me trying to take a picture and ran over to stand in my booth and wave at me. To his chagrin though, too many people kept getting in the way of his prank. One of the best things about doing Rockbrook this year (besides the money) was I was surrounded (quite literally) by many of my artist friends.

Momma Mia!

I finally made it to the movie. Not that I have been desperately trying to go, in fact I was kinda uncertain whether I would go see it at all. But when it came to our local theater (local, meaning 13 miles away) we went. Mike (was one of maybe 5 men) and I both really enjoyed it. Our little theater was packed with women my age to considerably older. Frankly they were almost as entertaining. They giggled like school girls and when Peirce Brosnon took off his shirt, there was an audible gasp.

Clearly it is a middle aged chick flick. And being a middle aged chick, it did actually appeal to me. Now I was very young when ABBA was big but I do still remember some of the songs. And now that I’ve seen the movie I am thinking of getting the soundtrack.

I pondered whether I ever had any ABBA records, because I still have all my old records in storage. I have no way to play them, but I’ve got ‘em. For those of you to young to know what a record is, it is this vinyl dinner plate sized disk that when a needle is placed against it, sounds comes out. Okay that was a sucky description. Umm . . . ask you parents. Or better yet, google it on wikipedia.

Anyway, if there is anyone out there yet who hasn’t gone to see it, go. Get a couple of your best girlfriends and go. It was excellent. Fun and silly but excellent.
