And so this is why you should never mock the Fates.

Well today, I told my brother that his painting would not be done in time for the big day. I mean I’ll maybe get it done. But I certainly won’t get it framed and shipped half across the country by then. I actually had to pull the phone away from my ear for a few seconds as he shouted NOOOOOO!!!!!

When I first agreed to do it and said it would “probably” get done in time, well that was before the artfair (which of course I had factored in.) But then when we got home we had a pretty good sized snow storm and actually got stuck on the farm for a bit. (the critter sitter kept the Budda fed and happy) And then I was in for one day and felt kinda crappy so stayed home the next. And the next. And the next. And . . . well, you get the idea.

Long story short I’ve got a nasty infection in my leg. I’ve been to the doctor and am on drugs (insert angelic chorus here.) Things are improving but I tire easily. I went in to the gallery for a few short hours yesterday and then slept for 12. Today I went in for 3 but almost 2 of that I was on the phone (of which 1 hour was with my brother.)

Not sure what happened. I might have a staph infection or maybe it was a spider bite. But it got nasty and gnarly and a little necrotic really quickly. I will spare you the gory details but it seriously freaked me out at how quickly it went bad.

So really . . . it’s all his fault.

I felt kinda guilty for awhile about not being able to do what I’d promised and then I realized this is totally all Troy’s fault.

I mean seriously dude, you just had to go and mock the Fates and the whole star aligning in the heavens thing didn’t you! So yes Troy, I guess you should have gone out and found yourself a chicken after all huh? And then you’d have your painting and I wouldn’t be suffering from some sort of flesh eating virus.

I hope you’ve learned your lesson.

BTW he thought the preliminary drawing thing was “funny as hell.”

UPDATED: I thought I should mention that of course Troy was totally fine about the painting. Which of course only makes me feel worse about not making it happen.

LOL — love the preliminary line drawing! Don’t feel too bad about it. I wound up in the same position way too many times and still owe an Australian friend a pastel diptych of a wombat and a cat in a garden. And many, many propitiatory butterflies to make up for her terrible long wait.

    Plus Miss Barbara’s landscape.

Very frustrating, but the way the Arkansas weather is going in December I’ll be lucky to manage little studies and sketches.

Oh, so sorry, Mona, hope it gets better soon. In the meantime, enjoy your down time!

Oh no! Poor you! It’s amazing how an infection can really take it out of you isn’t it? A little (not that) funny story - I had a throat infection years ago before I was married and asked my sister to stay with me to look after me because I was sooo ill. (She even had to help me to the toilet) She couldn’t understand what was wrong with me, after all, it was only a throat infection. Then a few years later she got a throat infection herself and understood what all the fuss was about!!

Illness seems to come at the most inconvenient times though doesn’t it? (Like, when is it ever convenient to be ill?) If it’s any consolation, I had to tell my first customer that his parents Christmas present won’t be ready!

Yup, poor me. :) I’m doing better and I think I’ll work 4-5 hours today. I knew I was sick because my down time has been spent sleeping or in a daze. Generally I’m too antsy to sit around day after day. I didn’t even use the playstation.

Glad to hear it is not “uncommon” to fail to deliver. Though Undaunted at least it was with my brother not a customer. So you win. Or is it lose. either way get better. :)
