Thanks Undaunted. It's not really so hard to talk about my work. After this many years I can say way more than anyone wants to hear. But generally speaking I like the judge to "judge" my work on what it is, not by what I claim it to be. I can throw alot of bull when it comes to talking about my art. :) The older I get though, the less I feel like indulging the judges.

Good luck with your show. Have you settled on exactly which works your taking? I need to get over to your blog. You probably have all the answers to my questions there.

Congratulations on the award! Sorry about the rain though.

It must be so hard when someone asks you to talk about your work rather than asking specific questions. I wouldn't know what to say!

It's my exhibition starting on Friday by the way. Hopefully I should have room for 4 pieces instead of 3.

Owatonna was around 3 hours, so not so very long. This weekend we do Minneapolis which is 4 1/2 hours away.

No one particular painting won. Generally for these kinds of events you are judged on your work as a whole. Because of this I try to be aware of my weakest work. Most times that is what will be the deciding factor.

The judges who talked with me said they liked my aggressive use of color and mark making with the oil pastels. He pointed to Days End - Belgian team when he said this. Also my cropping was commented on. Romeo -grevvy's zebra was pointed out for being kind of an outside the box (I really hate that term) thinking. I cut off the ears and legs on the image and I worked him with mostly browns. Also I framed him in browns. (not B&W like one would expect) She liked that unusual way of looking at the world.

Most of the judges just asked me to talk about my work. I have a small speech (a 5 second commercial if you will.) After that I rely on Q&A. Not wise if you want to win awards. Those who talk alot of . . . Um. . .art speak (whether true or not) will do better with the winning of awards.

Sorry to hear about the rain. It is great you won an award with a nice check! Sounds like a very nice event. How long a drive was that for you? Would love to see your award winning painting.

Busy with yard work/general clean up, mostly, guests on the weekend.
