Chicken Painting WIP
To tell the truth I was a little hesitant to post this because I’m not sure whether I’m going to finish it.
The more I look at it the more I think the whole image should be shifted to the right a bit. Which of course means starting over.
The good thing though, is since part of my process is to do the drawing on a regular piece of paper, then trace it off onto the handmade paper, means starting over doesn’t mean re-drawing everything from scratch.
Oh . . . and the wild hairdo on my chicken . . . is real. Or at least, the farm we lived on in South Dakota had dozens of these pom-headed types. I just love that mad scientist look.
I’ll post a few photos with my next wip. I really do think I need to shift my bird over. (Heavy Sigh) Good thing I made 100 more sheets of paper.

A chicken really is something different!! It’s looking great so far though. Couldn’t you just trim the paper down?
Hey Undaunted, I seriously thought about just tearing off about one inch on the right. BUT it would probably look like I did that. And I think it still wouldn’t shift the weight of the image. Still . . . pondering doing just that anyway.
Fellin’ a little lazy at the moment.
Umm. . . second thought probably won’t. It’s mostly likely one of those things that would continue to bother me.

I was also going to ask if you could just tear the paper off on the right. If the project was destined for the trash, you might as well rip first; throw later! (or not)
I’m LIKING the looks of him!
I probably wouldn’t redo it, I’d mess with the background to balance it. But that’s me, the lazy bloke. You know what you’re doing — and it’s cool that you have preliminary drawings like that and don’t have to redo the complex sketch.
I think it’ll be beautiful. I always liked chickens and birds with extravagant feathers, they’re so cool. A friend of mine down South has some pretty dramatic chickens but not quite like this!
Robert
Hey Robert, I only do the sketching it out thing for when I’m working on handmade paper. The handmade stuff is so soft you can’t erase without tearing it all up. So I sketch it out on a seperate sheet of paper first, then trace it over. It adds more work but in some cases (as in here) it saves me time because I just start again.
Carol I am thinking about possibly making an ACEO out of the first one, so won’t necessarily toss him out. I needed the full paper size to weight the image properly. Hard to say that the second drawing is any more successful at attaining this than the first. I’ll find out when I’m finished I suppose.
