Foal Painting Title Search Continues

Self Imposed Rules
I still haven’t come up with any title for my foal painting. And I really need to, since I plan to make prints soon.
I have a couple of self imposed guidelines for titles.
1. Be succinct. 3 words maximum, if it can be said with less even better.
2. If it doesn’t add to the story of the painting, don’t bother.
Robert Sloan suggested “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon.” Which I really like the feel of and have been playing a bit with. Like: Lazing I also thought about Dozing or Nappy (not quite right as it’s not really looking sleepy) so lazing is definitely the best descriptor.
I also thought about
Baby Face (too cute)
Bran’ Spankin’ New (I really liked this one, but since this isn’t a new born foal it doesn’t really fit.)
If it had been a Paint Horse foal I would have all sorts of clever possibilities with word play. Ah well.
I do have some unnamed originals, you know like Blue Rhino or some such descriptive thing which suffices for keeping track of which image is which. But when it comes to being printed on the print it really needs to be something greater than “foal painting.”
Once again anyone with any ideas, let me know.
Interesting discussion. It is wonderful when the title comes easy. This is a difficult one. I’ll throw a couple of suggestions into the ring: “Tuckered Baby” “All Tuckered Out” “Tuckered Out Foal”
I got two 9×12 CP’s (a red macaw and a blue and gold macaw) done last week. I am having a hard time getting the creative time in this week, so maybe two was a prepayment. I am getting bogged down with a small garden, some drop in company, going to nephews’ (twins) graduation Thursday and Friday. Weeks never went this fast with a traitional job. Of course, it is too true that time flies as one gets older. It hurts not to be doing more drawing — I enjoyed it so much last week, hopefully can put in alot of time on the weekend. P.S. my old boy, Buddy, foundered on grass, first time ever, and had been gradually on it for two weeks before being out there longer. I have been treating him as vet suggested, anxious to see what vet makes of him this Thursday.
What I thought of looking at it today was “Played Too Long.” But I’m glad you liked “Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon” and it got you thinking, thanks for mentioning it. I love this painting.
Our family’s moving to Arkansas where I will get much closer contact with horses than I ever have in my life, because my daughter’s an apprentice farrier in school down there and sees them every day. I might get to visit the school and do some sketches or snap reference photos. She also has plans for the whole family to get into riding.
I’ll need lessons and a good teaching horse that’s aware of disabled people and their loopy posture, but in the very long run I may actually wind up the happy, well-trained owner of a Gypsy Vanner instead of a power chair — and in a rural area, a horse may be a lot better than a power chair.
Especially for being able to get a real French Easel (a horse can lift one and carry it much easier than I can) and take up plein air painting. A horse would mean I could get to those way off the road places only artists who hike can get to, and if I go out with a group I won’t get left behind because she can walk about the speed of the other horses.
This is going to be awesome. But I’ll be trying it with rented horses long before we get our own horses.
Angela I am so sorry to hear about Buddy. How bad was the founder? I’m always worried about founder. Kinda over cautious. Frankly I think it is the vet tech thing again where I seen pics of how bad founder can be.
Chicory and I will send warm get well wishes your way.
I’m liking “Tuckered Out” Hmmmm.
Robert Oh, a Gypsy Vanner. (that’s the sound of a very envious me) From all I’ve heard from the people who have them, they are wonderful in disposition and spirit.
When are you moving?
Thanks for the well wishes, Mona and Chicory. He is not as well off as I was hoping he would be. He has some coffin bone rotation and had his hoofs severly trimmed. He needs to stay off grain and grass for at least the next four weeks. I will be tallking to the vet about more things I can do to help him, but this is all I have as of today. (I used to have a farrier who did natural/barefoot trims — was the best thing I believe — but all I can find now refuse to do this — I would ideally want this for him).
Robert, I wish you well with all of your horse dreams — you move and plans sound very exciting.
I’m probably a bit late but how about ‘hard day’s play’?
I’ve not been logging in much lately. Posting this from my new phone! Think I might try to post a blog post this way too - can’t be bothered to put my pc on
