A really great and helpful post. Have you succumbed to doing these digital yet? I have a hard enough time organizing them on the computer, let alone when developed. I have stacks to organize from the past that are fun/memory photos, as it is. I am able to sort through them occasionally and find what I want, though, such as the recent bully series.

I've heard that about swans. Never been attacked by one but I've had geese go after me and they're scary enough despit being smaller. :)

Great advice on the photography, and I totally agree with:

#2 - I often have to guess at the parts I can't see, like the tummy.
#5 - I usually (like I've done it loads!!) work from one main photo but I always have to search for detailed photos of noses and such like.
#6 - the wrong lighting can make an animal look shapeless with no contours or muscle structure.

I'm no photographer either, but there are times when I wish I had a super zoom lense to take the photos I want of the swans! They can get pretty violent if you get too close!!
