I think that's one of the things I've always liked about her work. The subtle humor. I may just have to get Emma and give it a read. Our library is pretty small so maybe I'll just have to order it.

As far as cost I have no idea what a download book costs but amazon sells used books for nest to nothing. I just bought Dawn French's book Dear Fatty for less than 6$ hardcover and that included shipping from the UK. My husband got a couple of others at the same time for less than $1 per book with shipping I think they averaged $3 or $4 a piece. Thought I'd mention it if you haven't tried used online yet.

It certainly is. :) I know what you mean - I'd love to own the complete Austen collection, in book form of course, but a cash flow problem prevents it at the moment and I was just too impatient to read more of her work! I like to be able to flick backwards and forwards in a book, to refresh my bad memory, which is more difficult online, but I find it hard to get comfortable in bed when I'm trying to hold a book. I find my mobile is ideal for this because I can hold it with one hand and don't have to move to turn pages!!

I don't know about the US, but over here our two oldest tv stations are always producing tv drama's of Austen novels. It's interesting to see how they compare with the films.

I'm most of my way through Emma now, and I would say that the Gweneth Paltrow film is a pretty good adaption. There's a lot left out, but I think it captures the spirit of the novel pretty well (except Emma likes Jane Fairfax more in the book than in the film, and it was her and not Frank Churchill who first thought the pianoforte was from Mr Dixon). The tv drama was much more serious, which I don't think the novel was intended to be. There's a lot of subtle humour throughout the book.

And that's my review!! lol sorry to waffle on! I can't wait to finish it and start Sense and Sensibility!

Hey Undaunted,

I'm a Big Austen fan. I like Sense and Sensibility and also Emma. But P & P is my favorite. I've read the books (not emma) and have the movie Becoming Jane which I enjoyed but found a little sad.

I gotta say I really like books over online reading. I'm not sure why. Maybe I'm stuck in my ways. I can't imagine reading on a mobile. Ain't technology grand. :)

Oh wow! Are you an Austen fan too? Or just that film in particular? I loved the book (and I'm not even that keen on reading!) I quite like the film (and I own it and watch it) but it's not my favourite. I really love Sense and Sensibility and Emma, although I think it's always easier to like a film when you haven't read the book, which I haven't. I am in the middle of reading Emma now though - I managed to find the books online, so I can lay in bed and read them on my mobile!

So, fat and furry for this weather eh? I'll have to keep that in mind!! :D

Thanks Robert, :)

Angela, good for you for taking tax classes. Frankly anything to do with taxes gives me a headache. SO Bravo to you!

Hi, Mona. Hope you are enjoying yourself. I can relate to the enjoyment of the little pleasures of slitaritiness ( a word? -- but I think you know what I mean.)

Wow warm meals -- I can't boast that at this point, but doing what I can for them and yet another one that has started to hang around, a she -- hope she doesn't have anything in the oven.

I just got balck from tax preparer training -- will be doing that. Found out late. Have been working on my poster as much as possible, deadline fast approaching. Need to work on a blog post before going to the barn. Behind in the new year already. This weather is a bummer, having to dress like an astronaut to go to the barn is really time consuming.

Oh that sounds fun! Very happy to hear your barn cats survived. Fat & shaggy does seem like a good strategy for them. I'm glad that you bring them hot meals, that warms my heart. Well, you know I'm a cat nut anyway.
