Louise Shimon’s Open House

Well look at me. Two posts in one day! That may well be a record.

I pondered making a post of this because I know so many of my readers are many states (and in some case countries) away. But then I thought “Well heck, not everybody is.”

My friend Louise Shimon is having a Open House tomorrow (Saturday) at her home. Since I don’t know where that actually is . . . well I know she lives in Perry, Iowa but I don’t know where the actual house is located. I thought I’d just point you to her blog which is Marion Gunderson art (and the Farmer’s Daughter.) Louise is the daughter. (One of several actually.)

The reason she got into making prints of her mother’s artwork is a great story (and how we met.) And this week the Des Moines Register wrote about it. Very Cool!

She has been working her tiny bahookie off getting ready for this. Louise has shown more marketing moxie than many full time artists I know. Good luck tomorrow Louise. I hope you have more people than you can handle.

So anybody in the area looking for a fun day out, go visit Louise. And tell her I sent ya.

    Yes!…Look at you, Mona!!! Thank you for posting about the open house. And, as far as directions go, if anyone wonders, my address is 14106 Green Dr., Perry, IA. The directions from both east of Perry and west of Perry are given in the top (as of tonight) post on the blog. Also, images of the prints available at this point are at the “View and order prints” link at the right of the blog’s home page.

    The open house is from 9:00 until 5:00 tomorrow (Saturday the 14th) and also by appointment. We have prints, and we have refinished) our basement with wood from a barn that was built in 1904 and was at the “home place” where my father was raised. Whether you want to see prints, or want to see barn wood (or just want to have monster cookies!) it would be fun to have you stop by. (By the way, Mona has a lot to do with that marketing moxie!)

    Bahookie? Moxie?? Totally new to me, but great words! :D

  3. Undaunted Says:

    Ooh, hope your day goes well Louise :)

    Weird Word decoder.

    These are real words. Well “bahookie” may be in question as spell check says no. (I believe I originally heard used by a Scottish squirrel - no kidding. But have have heard it quite a bit since, so am going with it) And “Moxie” may be from the 20’s era or at least that’s how I always pictured it.

    Bahookie = Butt
    Moxie = Spunk

    That being said I do have a tendency to make words up. When I submitted my last column for Apples ‘n Oats magazine the editor Carol Eilers sent an email asking if “slurber” was really the word I meant. And yes, yes it was. :)

    Hope the fair goes well for you, Mona!

    Louise, what a loving wonderful project, best of luck with your open house!

  6. Undaunted Says:

    Hehehe, yeah, we make up words in this house too! :D

    Spunk isn’t really a word we use in the UK. Well… when I was a kid I heard it used… but that meaning probably wasn’t what you had in mind! Is it like, determination? Or, courage?

  7. MonaMajorowicz Says:

    Correct Undaunted. I tend to use it interchangeably with feisty.

    So I gotta ask, what does it mean in the UK? (I am a little concerned to find out the answer)

  8. Undaunted Says:

    Yeah… trust me, you don’t wanna know! I don’t even know if it’s used in that way anymore, it’s just how I heard it used as a kid, by other kids.

    Ummm… hmm… I’ve gone a bit shy now! Umm… what shall I call it… male fluid!

    LOL!!!!!!
