Undaunted, it is more an anoyannce than anything. Fortunately "originals only" events are relatively rare. Or perhaps there is enough of the other kind to compensate for them.

Martin,

To be clear, my complaint was about excluding erproductions in general, not just giclee. I just happen to have giclee so that is why I mention them. In fact if anything I have found that giclee enjoy a higher reputation (at the moment) than most traditional reproductions.

Good luck with your new blog. I will check it from time to time to see if anyone answers your (my) question. :)

Mona:

What a good question!

From the viewpoint of a collector of modest means, I've become a giclee fan. I've become so passionate about this new way to create quality art reproductions that I've started a website about giclees.

Our major show, the Cherry Creek Art Show here in Denver, also doesn't allow giclees, but they do allow print-makers - lithographs, serigraphs, etchings and even woodcuts. Like artists in these fields it seems to me that giclee artists could sign and number their output as limited editions and in this way not "sully" the reputations of local art shows.

The time will come, I believe, when giclees, as well as many forms of digitally-produced works, will find their rightful place as not only legitimate media, but as valued art.

But it will take time for judging panels from the Junior League to get off their high horses and see what's really happening to the very art they are trying to protect from "the common man".
