Possible Disaster Relief For Artists

And now for some good news.
I got an email from Omaha Summer Arts Festival about some help for those who lost so much this year, either at this event or some other. I thought I would pass it along.

We would like to pass on two pieces of information that came to our attention after the Festival. First, for any artist that had losses severe enough to be considered career-threatening, please contact the Craft Emergency Relief Fund (CERF). While CERF generally cannot respond to all weather related claims at outdoor shows, they will certainly consider applications from those most severely hit by the storm. Please contact CERF directly at (802) 229-2306 or at Craft Emergency Relief Fund for more information.

Creative Energies from Ocala, Florida, is offering discounts up to $100 off a new canopy. Please mention your booth was damaged at the Omaha Summer Arts Festival to receive the discount. You can call (800) 351-8889 and ask for Wendy or log on to www.lightdomecanopies.com for more details.

Wow, that is good news. I didn’t know such an organisation existed!

I just posted under yesterday’s post, again I am very sorry. I am glad for the above possible relief. I hope you and the wildlife artist you mentioned are able to get some relief from this organization. What kind of insurance could a person have for this? Probably cost prohibitive for most. I hope this is the end of such terrible weather for the rest of the art fair events. Angela

I most likely do not qualify for this. My damages were no where near career-ending. I do have insurance because I have a brick and mortor business. However it only covers cost of goods lost. (this is the way with most insurance’s. Also with postal insurance and tax deductions in regards to donations) By the time you take the cost and then the deductable there won’t be much in way of assistance. None the less I contacted my insurance company and am still working on the actual inventory lost.

I really am taking it all pretty good. I have been since it happened. Belinda (the friend who helped seperate the salvagable from trash) kept saying over and over that I was “one tough lady.” Apparently she expected I would crumble into tears. No tears yet over the trauma of last weekend. That being said, I still am dreaming about picking up water soaked prints off the street. Really other than a great deal of labor my losses were minor compared to others.

Hope you both (urr . . . probably not you UD, wasn’t really thinking there.) had a good fourth of July. I of course went in to the gallery. I have 5 days until the next event and loads of stock to replace. However I kept my doors locked and then left early. Mike and I went to a movie and then watched the fireworks. It has been years since I seen a city display, and even though it was a small town it was still pretty impressive and quite enjoyable.
