Signs of Spring
Yesterday was Sunday and I spent the day on the farm (how very unlike me.) I spent quite a bit of time cleaning the barn and then me and the dog went for a long walk. It was lovely.
Everywhere Spring was bursting forth. Mind you we still have huge drifts in the yard but we now have plenty of grassy patches peeking through. And the grass is actually green.
The cats are sunning themselves and the geese are flying every which direction looking for a place to call home.
Also the creek is quite flooded. So much so, I can hear it’s roar from the barn, which is unusual.
And the last sure sign of Spring. I groomed Chicory out thoroughly yesterday and he was shedding his coat like crazy. I could have made a sweater and perhaps matching socks from the hair I pulled off him.
Spring is definitely here! Yay!
Hi Mona, I also groomed my horse yesterday- and WOW the amount of hair that came off of him was astounding. We have had the easiest winter in the history of winters, but I am still eager for Spring! The migratory ducks are coming back and my blueberry bushes are starting to show their little leaf buds!!! Hurray!
That sounds so cool! It’s beautiful. Maybe you should save all that hair, if not for knitting, for washing and felting into a cushion filling or something. I’ve considered doing that with Ari’s spectacular coat when he blows it and he’s just a little cat.
Lorie,
I must say it made my horse very happy. Well actually very sleepy. By the time I was done his nose was just a few inches off the floor.
Maybe you and I should both do as Robert suggested and do something with all that hair. Hmm.
Robert,
I have an artist friend who has used his mane clipping in her art and it looked very cool. I’ve pondered trying to add it to some homemade paper but figured my oil pastel would cover it all up. Same friend actually suggested spinning it for a sweater. You two think alike. Sounds itchy though. Would probably have to wear something under it.
Glad you had such an enjoyable relaxed day.
