The First Thing I See In The Morning
This is my dog Cisco. She’s a collie/golden cross. And lately (and often) I’m waking up to find her nose just about touching mine, with her giant brown eyes staring at me. She seems to be standing there, willing me to wake up. It’s not like she wants to go outside or anything. She just watches me sleep until I wake.
When I open my eyes, she usually shifts her eyes left and right like she’s unsure. (I can be a bit of a Grizzly Bear in the morning) But when I smile or mumble incoherently, she makes little happy noises and stomps around tail wagging excitedly. Then in a flash she slaps a big lick on the end of my nose. Which usually gets a squeal or an Ugh. (Though I’m an animal person I hate licking, especially on the face and she knows it.) So it’s a hit and run lick.
I usually have trouble falling asleep afterward, even when it’s still in the middle of the night. Cisco however has no trouble falling back asleep. Now contented because she made me squeal she goes and settles down somewhere secure in the knowledge that her work here is done.

I love it! Reminds me of what I see from my cat first thing when I wake up! Of course he’s usually ON my chest, all 15lb of him. If I don’t reach up to pet him and open my eyes, he’ll then purr louder and put his whiskers up my nose.
I think they just care. They want to see our eyes filled with love just as much as we like seeing theirs full of love.
Hmmm . . . whisker up the nose huh. You win or is it lose?
This is hilarious. Before I read about the whiskers and the question of win or lose, and after I read about the whiskers. I’m glad to meet Cisco. I don’t understand. Why isn’t Cisco at the gallery with Budda?! : )
There are many reasons Cisco isn’t at the shop. Number 1. the hair. She’s double coated and Lordy does she shed. 2. Also she’s fairly old and would rather nap someplace warm and quiet. 3. Budda hates big dogs and as far as he’s considered she’s the alternate universe pet. I think he hates her for it.
And lastly she really doesn’t like cats. She tolerates them because we make her, but she would happily kill our barn cats if she thought she could get away with it. Fortunately the cats don’t seem to notice as they love her and run around her like she’s the big sister. More than once I’ve seen Cisco laying in the yard with 6 cats all nestled around her. Don’t let that nice mental image fool you. She would do them harm if we’d allow. But she’s as good as gold and a very good dog.
Urgh! I hate licking too! Very cute image of her nose to nose though!
Thanks Undaunted.
