Try Try Again

Today we leave for Brookings, South Dakota for our next artfair. We’ll be back on Monday. It is a bit of a crafty event and not high end at all. But the people come out in droves.

As for the weather. . . I am thinking the gods cannot be so cruel as to rain me out again. Can they? Perhaps they are just laughing and pointing. Hmmm. Anyway the weatherman forecasts sunny and coolish (like low to mid 80’s) Perfect artfair weather, if it’s true.

Wait a minute . . . do I just hear someone laughing?

I just came upon your blog in searching for info on oil pastels. My husband and I are both artists, with most of our recent work being in watercolor and colored pencil, but we’re considering trying oil pastels too. Many years ago, we did craft shows, many outdoors, selling wire and stone jewelry, and then for a time we henna (sometimes called temporary tattoos). We are now considering going back “on the circuit” with our art.

You definitely have my sympathy on your weather woes, and I have my fingers crossed that all is going and continues to go well for you this weekend. It looks like the weather might actually be cooperating for you, this time. We spent a few months in Beresford, South Dakota 2 years ago, and while we were there, the temps in the entire state were well over 100. Pierre even tied a statewide 70-year-old record of 120 in early July that year, which was also the highest temp in the entire country on that day!

Thanks Undaunted it was a good weather weekend. Woohoo!

Greetings KylieAlways good to talk with someone who has been there. So why are you thinking of going back on the circuit? Much of the time I dream up ways of trying to get off. The older I get the less I like the hauling and toting.

Most of my recent OP work is smaller stuff. I do have some grander more complicated works farther back. Unfortuantly, at the point you have to keep hitting the older posts link. We are working on trying to get some sort of archive up, just not enough hours in the day.

We have had some killer heat in Brookings before. And many years ago Mike and I lived in Rapid City. Talk about dry and hot. Every summer you lived in fear of the forest fires. Lately water is the enemy. Well that and tornados.

Thanks for taking the time to say hi. :) Do you have a websire that I can visit?

Well, as to why we’re considering going back on the circuit…for one thing, we absolutely loved it, except for early morning setups (we’re neither one morning persons and we’re neither one fond of setup; combine them and we get really grumpy) and bad weather. We’re both gypsies; we have lived in an RV for the last 4 years. But we’ve been staying in one place longer than we like to do - since we are not independently wealthy, we’ve been supporting ourselves and our lifestyle by getting temp jobs wherever we decide to go, and working until we have enough money to get to the next place. Going back on the circuit would cut down on, or possibly even eliminate, the need to do that and allow us (or rather require us) to travel more often. Plus, it would “force” us to do more art, which we’ve both been wanting to do anyway but finding too many excuses not to do. :-)

Unfortunately, the only current websites I could point you to are my food blog (www.nongourmet.com) and my husband’s art instruction blog (http://real-world-of-art.blogspot.com/). I’m working on designing a site for my art, but I’ve been awfully busy with moving into a newer, larger RV over the last few weeks. We’re just about settled now, so hopefully I’ll make some progress on that soon. But first I need to finish up the CP piece I started about 5 weeks ago that has spent way more time in my portfolio case than on my work board. :-/

I’ll check out the sites, thanks. SInce your experienced with the whole artfair scene I won’t trouble you with the “Don’t do it” speach that I usually prepare. :)

So where are you from? and where do (did) you show? I know you mentioned SD so I imagine you arn’t too far away.
